Abstract

To enhance the efficiency, sustainability and safety of a transportation network, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) have been developed and implemented. ITS uses cutting-edge information and communication technology to create transportation solutions for modern world problems. With conventional transportation infrastructure, ITS integrates advancements in information systems, communication, sensors, controllers, and sophisticated mathematical techniques. It is a system that combines people, roads, and vehicles and is intended to dramatically increase comfort, efficiency, and safety on the road. (Abhishek Pramod Gulhane, 2022) The focus of this research will be the North-South Corridor study report carried out by Jacobs Groups (Jacob, 2015). The location highlights the ramp metering required on multiple locations especially in Darlington and near the ANZAC highway, public transport vehicle priority lanes and variable speed limit (VSL) required on various entering and exit locations. In appendix, the table shows the various interchanges that require ramp metering and capacity issues. So, this study will provide the optimum solutions by using the advanced software’s tools i.e., SIDRA and AIMSUN. To carry out this, the data from the Department of Infrastructure and Transport will be cross-checked with the real time traffic count data on various locations. Overall, the parameters test seeks to reduce traffic congestion and hence boost economic, environmental, and social advantages through the coordination of traffic signals.
