Abstract

This thesis investigates how girls represent themselves online, and what girls' digital autobiographical practices can tell us about gender, youth and selfhood in contemporary media. Situated in the field of Auto/Biography Studies, the project also draws on important work from Media Studies and Gender theory to map out the stakes, forms, and contexts for girls’ life writing online. The original contribution that the project makes is twofold: firstly, it fills a gap in Auto/Biography Studies around girls as autobiographical producers. Secondly, it advances the cutting edge methodological approach of automediality, which aims to address a lack of critical methods for understanding digital modes of autobiography.
