El presente proyecto tiene como objetivo la traducción de un texto literario y su análisis aplicando un modelo propio de traducción. El modelo propuesto se diseña para el propósito de este proyecto, partiendo de la premisa de que debe lograrse la equivalencia entre el texto de origen (TO) y el texto de destino (TD). Tal equivalencia se entiende como una relación de comparabilidad entre textos, posibilitando en este estudio exponer la naturaleza multidimensional del proceso de la traducción.
Nuestro modelo traductológico se basa en los modelos dinámicos de Rosa Rabadán (1991) y Sergio Bolaños Cuéllar (2008, 2016), integrando a su vez la noción de polisistemas de Itamar Even-Zohar (1990, 2012). Este modelo dinámico e integrado permite explicar cómo la equivalencia entre el TO y el TD puede operarse en las diferentes fases del acto traductológico en el que coexisten e interactúan diversos factores contextuales, relacionales y textuales.
Se aplica el propuesto modelo a la traducción de un texto literario, “The Partisan’s Song” de Arnold Zable, cuentista australiano proveniente de la cultura yidis y miembro de la segunda generación de supervivientes de la Shoá, cuyas voces aportan significado y textura al relato. Se examina la heterogeneidad cultural que caracteriza la obra de Zable, aplicándose la noción de polisistemas de Even-Zohar al análisis de la influencia de tal heterogeneidad en el proceso de traducir el cuento.
En el análisis de la traducción del texto literario de este proyecto se examina la intencionalidad del autor del TO y la aceptabilidad del TD por parte de sus potenciales receptores. Se plantea que el modelo propuesto posibilita integrar las perspectivas de intencionalidad y aceptabilidad de forma dinámica e iterativa, lo que permite priorizar tanto el TO como el TD en el acto traductológico.
The purpose of this project is to apply a specifically designed translation model to the translation and analysis of a literary text. This model is based on the premise that it should be possible to achieve equivalence between an original text and a destination text. Such equivalence is understood, in this study, in terms of a relationship of comparability between texts, which leads to exploration of the multidimensional nature of the translation process.
Our translation model is based on the dynamic models of Rosa Rabadán (1991) and Sergio Bolaños Cuéllar (2008, 2016), which in turn integrate Itamar Even-Zohar’s notion of polysystems (1990, 2012). This dynamic and integrated model enables us to explain how equivalence between the original and destination texts operates at different stages of the overall translation process, in which diverse contextual, relational and textual factors coexist and interact.
The proposed model is applied to the translation of a literary text, ‘The Partisan’s Song’ by Arnold Zable, an Australian writer of Yiddish-speaking heritage and a member of the second generation of Shoah survivors, whose voices give meaning and texture to the story. We examine the cultural heterogeneity that characterises Zable’s work, applying Even-Zohar’s notion of polysystems to our analysis of the influence of this heterogeneity on the process of translating the story.
In analysing our translation, we examine the author’s intentions in the original literary text, along with the acceptability of the destination text to potential readers. From this study, we propose that our model facilitates integration of the perspectives of authorial intentionality and reader acceptability in dynamic and iterative ways that enable prioritising both the original and the destination texts in the translation process and product.
